Thiago treble inspires Spain retain Under-21 crown

Spain won their fourth UEFA European Under-21 Championship title and second in a row Thiago Alcantara scored a first-half hat-trick.
Result: Italy Under-21 2 (Immobile 10, Borini 80) Spain Under-21 4 (Thiago 6, 31, 38 pen, Isco 66 pen)

The final, which was between the two teams who featured in last year Euro 2012, had the same output as Spain scored four past Italy while the Azzurri managed to score only twice, Barcelona Midfielder Alcantara was on fire as he scored a hat-trick in the range of 32 minutes.

Spain and Italy had met twice in the competition final before– in 1986 and 1996 – where each team took the trophy home once winning it on penalties, Spain are now the second most winning nation with four titles one short from Italy.
